Monte Baldo at a glance

Monte Baldo is the long mountain ridge above the east shore. It stretches about 40 kilometres along the lake and across the provinces of Trento and Verona. The highest summit is Cima Valdritta at 2,218 metres, and the difference between the palm trees at the shore and the pines on the heights is more than 2,000 metres.

The cable car from Malcesine is the easy way up. It runs in two stages, with a change at San Michele, and the second cabin turns slowly as it climbs so that everyone sees the whole lake. Prices below are for adults in 2026.

Without a car, take a bus along the east shore or a ferry in season. The Lake Garda ferries stop in Malcesine until 1 November 2026. The Malcesine page covers the old town and the castle, which is worth an hour before or after the ride.

Walking and exploring at the top

The ridge is a hiking area, so dress for the mountain, not the beach.

Paths and weather

Marked walking paths start at the top station. The weather can change quickly, so carry a layer even in summer. Dogs must stay on a lead, and cycling is not allowed on meadows or footpaths.

Lifts on the ridge

The Prada and Costabella lifts reach above 1,850 metres. A summer bus, line 470, runs from Garda through Costermano to San Zeno di Montagna. The BusWalk&Bike service ran from 8 June to 9 September 2026.

Prà Alpesina chairlift

This lift is on the Trentino side. The walk to it from Tratto Spino takes about 30 minutes.

A day on Monte Baldo

Take an early cabin up so that you have the whole morning at the top. In October the last ride down is at 16:45, which leaves several hours on the ridge. Walk one of the marked paths, have lunch and plan your descent with the last ride in mind.

Allow time in Malcesine too. The castle is open daily until 31 October 2026, then only at weekends in November from 10:30 to 17:00, and daily from 5 December to 6 January. The adult ticket was €7 in 2025.
